STRATA
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 September 2026
Strata does not collect your data. It has no servers, no accounts, and no analytics. Everything you write stays on your device unless you deliberately export it.
What we collect
Nothing. Strata contains no code that transmits data anywhere. There is no account to create, no sign-in, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party analytics of any kind.
We cannot read your entries. We have no way to, because they never leave your phone.
Where your writing lives
Your entries, moments, layers, tags, and settings are stored in a database file inside Strata's private storage on your device. On iOS, this area is sandboxed by the operating system and is not readable by other apps.
If you have your device backed up to iCloud or a computer, that backup may include Strata's data, as it would for any app. That backup is handled by Apple under Apple's terms, not by us.
Deleting the app deletes its database. There is no copy anywhere else, and nothing to request or recover afterwards.
Device features Strata uses
- Face ID / Touch ID / device passcode. If you turn on App Lock, Strata asks the operating system to verify you. The result we receive is a yes or no. Biometric data is held by the system and is never accessible to the app.
- Photo library. When you export a card or receipt as an image, Strata asks for permission to add that image to your library. Access is add-only. Strata does not read, browse, or scan your existing photos.
- Files. When you restore a backup, you choose the file yourself through the system file picker. Strata can only see the file you pick.
- Sharing and printing. When you share or print an entry, the system share sheet or print dialog takes over. What happens after you choose a destination is governed by that app or service, not by Strata.
Backups you create
Strata can export an encrypted backup of your journal. Backups are encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM with a key derived from your passphrase via PBKDF2. The passphrase is never stored and never transmitted.
If you lose the passphrase, the backup cannot be opened. Not by you, and not by us. There is no recovery mechanism, by design.
Once you save or send a backup file somewhere, that copy is yours to look after. Its safety depends on wherever you put it.
Children
Strata is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Regulations such as the GDPR, the CCPA, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete personal data held about you. Strata holds none, so there is nothing for us to disclose or erase.
You have direct control over your own data at all times: read it in the app, export it as a backup or PDF, and delete it by removing entries or uninstalling the app.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with a new date. Any change that alters how the app handles your data will be described here before or when it ships.
